Time & Location

27 May, 10:15 – 28 May, 15:00

Beccles, Station Café, Beccles Train Station, Station Road, Beccles NR34 9QJ, UK

About the event

Circular walk of just over 7 miles, starting from  the historic town of Beccles via Geldeston and a section of the Angles Way long distance footpath. This is a varied walk with scenic views of the River Waveney and marshland. Easy to moderate walking, mostly on the flat, with one or two stiles.

Meeting point:  We will start from the Visitor Information Point on Beccles Quay.  Postcode NR34 9BH.  Meet at 10.15 am for 10.30 start. There are toilets and a refreshment stall here.

Parking:  Plenty of parking in Fen Lane car park.  All day ticket is £3.50. Postcode is NR34 9BB.

Please car share where possible, or you could take a train from Ipswich (15 mins past the hour) or Woodbridge (31 minutes past the hour).

The route will take us out of Beccles along the river bank and then we will cut inland across farmland to Dunburgh.  From Dunburgh we will walk on quiet country roads to Geldeston, where there will be an opportunity to stop for refreshments at the Locks Inn which is a community owned pub.

We then cross the marshes to pick up the Angles Way and walk back to Beccles.

Risk assessment:  Some uneven ground on river path and tree roots.  It was very muddy a few weeks ago, so boots advised.  Path is overgrown in places so expect some nettles. Short section of road walking on back roads between Dunburgh and Geldeston.

Dogs welcome on short leads.
