5 a Day for the Mind

We regularly hear from health experts about the importance of getting our ‘five a day’ of fruit and vegetables. But there is another five-a-day we should all be getting, one that is important for the health of our mind rather than our digestive system.

Five Moments of Mundane Happiness

Let us explain. A moment of mundane happiness is something quite ordinary, maybe something that you see almost every day. Something that makes you smile. That makes you happy. That lifts your mood and your spirits.

For example, you walk out of your door in the morning and the warm autumn sunshine reaches your face, it makes you feel good. You walk to your car and the smell of flowers in a front garden has been heightened by some dew and fills your nose with a beautiful scent. You get in your car and on the radio is a favourite tune. You sing along at the top of your voice.

Little things, but they all add up. The trick is to take time to notice them. We spend so much of our lives fretting about the past or worrying about the future that we forget to spend time in the present.

So make a pledge to find your new five a day. Write them down in the evening and assess how happy your day really has been. You’ll soon notice that you wake up with a new vigour, wondering what five moments of mundane happiness you’ll find today.
