Wondering if you have experienced a psychological trauma or other adverse psychological experience? Do you answer yes to any of these questions?

  • Do you get flash backs / frightening memories that you find it hard to get out of your head?

  • Do you suddenly for no reason get palpitations and hot and breathless?

  • At night do you get repeating dreams that disturb you?

  • Are sometimes unreasonable angry or irritable. Have you a very ‘short fuse’

Sometimes it is called PTSD – Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. However not everyone has been given this label who has a trauma that they need help for.

How can we help you?

The ‘treatment’ will not require you to go over and repeat and event in your past to your therapist. It uses a technique called the Rewind Technique while you are relaxed and safe in a confidential setting to realign your experience using the power of your own imagination and resourcefulness – with your therapists help. The process takes around 30 minutes and it totally non invasive and safe.

What makes something psychologically traumatic?

What's traumatic is personal. Other people can't know how you feel about your own experiences or if they were traumatic for you. You might have similar experiences to someone else, but be affected differently.  When we talk about emotional or psychological trauma, we might mean: Frightened, under threat, humiliated, rejected, abandoned, invalidated, unsafe, unsupported, trapped, ashamed, powerless.

 

Ways trauma can happen include:

  • one-off or ongoing events

  • being directly harmed

  • witnessing harm to someone else

  • living in a traumatic atmosphere

  • being affected by trauma in a family or community.

 

Am I making this up , making too much of a fuss - it is a really issue? There was a time when people experiencing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other adverse events and becoming mental unwell were not taken seriously. Many were told to ‘pull themselves together’ and get on with their lives. Now it has became recognised that PTSD is a genuine disorder and is not an illness but an injury which can be treated.
